The 50 Yard Line is the preeminent fantasy football league in central New York. It consists of fourteen franchised managers, of which all have ties with the central New York region. The league was founded in Syracuse NY, in July 2003 with the first year of existence under the league name Wonderland.
HistoryThe 50 Yard Line was founded by John Burt Jr. in 2003. The league originally consisted of eight managers with five still active (Burt, Brindak, Campagnone, Goslowski, Venuti). Manager Rob Lucio (St Louie Wolverines) won the first ever BurtBowl on December 28, 2003.
Expansion TeamsIn 2004, The 50 Yard Line welcomed manager Barnello to become the 6th active manager of the league. Barnello went on to the finals that year only to lose to his eventual arch rival Brindak.
The 2005 class featured 3 current members: DelPrato (2x champion), Lilly and Pucello. Manager DelPrato made an instant impact on the league, winning the BurtBowl his first two years as well as a 2nd place finish in his third year. The 2006 class also featured 3 current members: Acchione, Kohanski and Przepiora. In 2007 manager Dixon joined the 50 Yard Line to replace manager Kohler and in 2008 manager Mazinski was added to replace manager Bartlett. UniquenessThe league introduced the 2 starting QB format in 2004 and evolved into it's current 14 team league in 2005. The league went from an online draft to a live draft held in Syracuse in 2007. In 2008 the keeper was introduced: each manager is allowed to keep 1 player of their choice and sacrifice the round they drafted that player in. A player can be kept for a maximum of 3 years in a row by one manager.
