2003
The 50 Yard Line is the brain child of madman and league commissioner John Otis Burt Jr. He spent the majority of his childhood eating, sleeping, and breathing sports. He first became involved with fantasy football leagues at an early age thanks to his father's Post Office league. Eventually, at the age of 13 John decided he was old enough to manage not only his own team, but start his own league. So, in June of 2003, John and 7 other managers joined a league simply known as 'Wonderland'. It didn't seem like much at the time, but it would soon become the most prestigious fantasy football league in Central New York.

- There were no negative points in the league. Interceptions and fumbles did not count against you. - There were no 'points allowed' points or penalties. Whether a defense allowed 0 points or 50 points, there was no difference in the amount of points awarded to the defense. |
2004
After one year of the league it was already time for big changes. New members, new settings, and most importantly, and new name. 'Wonderland' had only survived one year and it was already time for an overhaul. In 2004 the league decided to change the name from 'Wonderland' to 'The 50 Yard Line' and the name has stuck for past 8 seasons.

2005
2005 brought change to The 50 Yard Line yet again. The biggest change was going from an 8 team league to a 14 team league. Two members left the league and 8 new members were added. This is the largest expansion the league has ever seen aside from the creation of the league. Another big difference in 2005 was the addition of 1 point for completions. Because of this, quarterbacks stats were inflated and tough to compare to any other year.

2006
Two more teams were added in 2006 to bring the total number to 16 members. It didn't take long to figure out that this was far too many teams for the league. The average points were way down and only one team actually crested the 1,000 point mark. Another change to the league was addition of the point bonuses for passing, rushing, and receiving yards. 2006 also added a new position called the flex position where you can start either a wide receiver or a running back. Both of these changes are still being utilized in the league today.

2007
2007 brought the most important change of the entire league. The league finally entered the live draft era. For the first time in league history, the draft was held live with all 14 managers of the league in attendance in the Campagnone's garage. The draft has been held by the Campagnone's every year since 2007, and it will remain this way until the termination of the league. The live draft era is very important because it is the earliest year to which all current stats can be compared to. This is because finally after 5 years of tinkering with all the settings and number of players in the league, all of the settings were finally written in stone. Due to all the changes to the league settings, number of members, and number of players drafted, there is no real way to compare the stats or results to any year prior to 2007. The introduction of the life draft era was a defining moment for the league and The 50 Yard Line would not be the same without it.

2008
Not a whole lot changed after 2007. The biggest event of the start of the 2008 season was the league's first ever banning of a manager. Due to lack of interest, dedication, and updating it was decided by the league that Manager Bartlett was found not fit to be a 50 Yard Line manager and cannot be invited back. The league and Manager Bartlett were headed in two different directions. One was headed for greener pastures and the other, well a life without The 50 Yard Line, which if you ask me just sounds like its not even worth living. None the less, Bartlett and the league parted ways and the final spot was filled by none other than Matthew 'Larry' Mazinski. Larry made quite a splash by drafting rookie sensation Chris Johnson who quickly became a staple of Mazinski's team. So with the fat trimmed and the wound closed, the current active 14 lucky managers of The 50 Yard Line had been chosen.

2009
There were two more big additions to the league in 2009. The first one was the draft lottery. Just like the NBA draft lottery, The 50 Yard Line draft lottery, traditionally held the night of the NBA draft, the worst finisher from the previous year has the best odds for the earning first pick of the following year. So who ever makes it to the final four will be seeded based on their finish in the playoffs and that will determine their draft order for the following year. The other 4 managers who make the playoffs will be seeded by how they finished in the regular season. The remaining 6 who did not make the playoffs are entered into the draft lottery and their finish in the regular season determines the odds of winning the coveted first pick of the draft. The other addition of 2009 was one the league had never seen before. The 50 Yard Line was officially....a keeper league. Each manager was allowed to keep one player from the previous year and sacrificed the pick of which round he was drafted. There is a limit of 3 years that you can keep one player.

One more roster spot was added to act almost as an injured reserve position. However it was not an actual draft pick. After the completion of the draft, each manager wrote 3 player names on a list and put them in a hat. Then each list was picked at random, if a player on your list was still available then you could pick one of the players on your list. If you didn't want to put in a list and just pick up a free agent at a later time, that was allowed. Another small change was that the flex position was altered to also allow tight ends.

Sound the trumpets! The 50 Yard Line is officially in its 10th season! So with its 10th season, it is time to introduce The 50 Yard Line Hall of Fame! There are three categories in the Hall of Fame for which each team can submit their nominees. These categories are franchise player, best team, and best trio. A committee will choose which nominees make the ballot and it will be a league vote for who will be the very first ever inductee to The 50 Yard Line Hall of Fame.
